Get to know un°chartered’ queer’’
Unchartered Queer is a personal exploration of healing, identity, and becoming.
It’s a space where I share lived experiences—not as an expert, but as someone on a messy, evolving journey toward self-acceptance, self-love, and inner peace.

This blog is rooted in curated transparency—honest but not exposing, vulnerable but intentional. I write from the heart, but not in the heat of the moment. What I share here is grounded, integrated, and offered in service of reflection.
- I write about my own experiences, not others. I respect and protect the privacy of those who have shaped my journey
- I share stories to offer insight, not for drama or disclosure. Not everything I process gets published
- I maintain strong boundaries between this project and my professional life
- Some of my deeper reflections are reserved for myself to protect what’s still tender
- Reflections on queer identity, grief, growth, and reinvention
- Lessons from heartbreak, healing, and nervous system work
- Tools, prompts, or practices for your own self-discovery
- A tone of self-compassion, curiosity, and openness—not prescription or perfection

This blog is not a personal journal. It’s a window into the journey—offered with care and respect of personal boundaries. It’s a place to inspire others on a path of self-acceptance, transformation, and creating a life rooted in authenticity.
Some of the content is written in real time, while others are post reflections of my journey. I write to process, to understand, and to share the messiness of growth—not to present a finished story. Expect shifts in tone, clarity, and perspective.
If something resonates, you’re welcome to reach out at any time—I appreciate hearing how these reflections land. Just a note that while I love meaningful connection, this space isn’t set up to offer personal advice or emotional support. Thank you for honouring this.

VALUES
The key principles that guide my writing and how I narrate my personal journey.
Integrity
I write what feels emotionally integrated, not what’s raw. I honour and respect those that have shaped my journey.
Curated transparency
I lead with vulnerability, but I share with intention. I offer what’s relevant to the story, not everything I carry.
Self inquiry
I write to better understand myself and my patterns. I hope my questions spark reflection in those who read them.
Evolving
I write about my journey in motion, not from a finish line. Expect shifts in tone, clarity, and perspective.
I’m Mike, a cis gay man, freelancer, and explorer of life’s uncharted paths.
Growing up gay in rural Canada, I kept my sexuality hidden for years. I finally came out in my mid twenties. Yet, I still found myself navigating dual identities—hiding parts of myself to fit into different contexts, especially while living, travelling, and working in countries with limited LGBQT+ rights. Shame was a dominant theme in my life, shaping how I moved through the world. It wasn’t until my mid thirties, fresh from a divorce, that I started to fully embrace my true self while living on a tropical island in Thailand—the place that really kick started my journey of self-discovery.
I’ve spent the past twelve years living and travelling across six continents (all but Antarctica), immersing myself in different cultures and ways of being. Most of that time, I was in long-term relationships. Now I find myself stepping into a new chapter in Mexico, embracing the uncertainties of life on my own and deepening my connection with myself.
I’m a certified yoga instructor with a passion for holistic healing, somatic therapy, massage, and meditation as tools for deeper self-awareness and transformation. While I continue to work as a freelance consultant, I’m also exploring a complementary path as a holistic practitioner, hoping to support others on their healing journeys, just as so many practitioners have supported me.
For me, “queer” is more than just a label—it’s a reclaimed and expansive identity that speaks to fluidity, self-acceptance, and the courage to forge your own unique path. Through Unchartered Queer, I share my personal experiences of healing, self-discovery, and the lessons learned from living a life outside of the conventional mold.
Wherever you are on your journey, I hope this space offers insight, reflection, and a sense of belonging. Welcome to Unchartered Queer — where we walk the unmarked path, together.
